Signs to leave a company

I can't proclaim I know it all. But after close to 10 years of work experience, I have my own reflections and thoughts about when it is time to pack you bags and leave a company.  1. When your boss doesn't like and understand you I've been blessed in my first job that my bosses likes me, a lot. I was given opportunities (though I felt stress) to do various projects, and I was given limelight. Even when I made mistakes, my bosses were empathetic. I am still young and learning, they said. I think age might have played a part. Because I was young, I was inexperienced, they were more forgiving. I was also less of a threat to them.  In my next role, I was half lucky. My bosses also like me and were rather kind to me. However, when there was a change in boss to someone just a few years older, things changed. She put on a fake front, and was difficult to engage. As I felt less respected, I was very open in showing my dislike for her as well.  In my current role, I was unlucky. I c

Enjoying the mundane rhythm of 2 years and hoping it lasts

I've always been appreciative of WFH. Even before the pandemic, I enjoyed telecommuting because it gets me away from office politics and tensions with people. I really hate (fake) social interactions. So after close to 2 years (time flies), I'm documenting my quick thoughts about my mundane rhythm so that I can look back fondly if we were to ever be forced to return to office😠. For context, I love staying home. I'm glad to be able to move into my house and settled the renovations before the mass disruption. Having 3 bedrooms meant my husband and I have our own room for work. We started off working in the same room, but given the number of calls and meetings we need to attend, it was difficult to be together. Nope, we didn't quarrel. Now that I reflect upon it, it seems like my husband is the BEST co-worker I've ever worked with! We are comfortable with each other, and shoot what we think, yet are respectful of each other space. He doesn't judge me regardless o

Thoughts 1-month into new workplace

It's been a month in my new job. It's interesting to read back a post I made in my previous role here  and I thought I would make some reference to it. Similar as before, I am still adjusting to the new environment. However, the expectations now and then are different given the change in responsibilities. The Good Higher monthly salary than before but annual package works out similar  No need to OT so far Job upgrade since I'm taking an official supervisory/middle-management role (I was doing the same previously overseeing a few staff but it wasn't an official role) Being able to WFH most of the times   though this is due to Covid (I was able to WFH everyday previously though) Better health benefits Potentially a better stepping stone  Escaped the toxic environment in previous company The Bad Sucky boss. It's hard to understand what the boss wants because he/she doesn't give clear directions and flips his/her words. He/she could say do A yet questioned why you d

I've resigned

3 years ago, I blogged about my thoughts during my notice period here . 3 years down, I've resigned and am serving notice again. This time, the macro environment is a tad different. With WFH arrangements, the act of resignation was a bit weird YET it suited me well. Weird that I didn't have to meet the bosses f2f to pass the letter physically. However, I love it because it made my resignation simpler. I did stress out a bit thinking what I should say to my bosses before I send the resignation letter via email, but it was pleasant that I could wrap up the call within a short while without looking at their faces. I also like the fact that there is no need to meet colleagues/get confronted or asked questions that I don't wish to answer🙄  You can probably tell, I don't like my bosses nor most of my colleagues.  That said, there were a few nice colleagues who reached out to me to congratulate me. Yes, congratulate! Seems like they aren't happy there as well :( Anyway, m

Benefits of WFH

<source pic in hyperlink> In the past, when I hear "circuit breaker", I'd link it to Science/Physics. Not anymore. People crudely calls it CB. Even before CB kickstart, my company had started implemented WFH - if you've no biz in office, don't go. And, I love it. I love staying home. And, it's CB Day 6 today. With a week of reflection plus past experiences, these are my personal benefits of WFH: 1. Wake up late/Extra sleeping time I now get to wake up at 8.20am, brush my teeth, comb my hair, and saddle myself on my chair and prep for work. 2. Save transport cost I always love telecommuting since it helps me save on my commute. That's around $2 savings a day of not taking the public transport to office! 3. Save lunch money and translate into groceries cost for hubby and I Eating in office costs way more because after half a day of angst at work, all of us crave for good food. And good food usually meant spending $15-$30 per mea

Reflections during vacation leave - Covid-19, new thoughts, new job?

I am on 1 day leave for an interview. But more on that later. Since I've the whole day to spare, I shall do some verbal vomit here. Covid-19 When we welcomed the start of a new decade, who would have known that within a month, there would be world-wide disruptions? Chinese New Year this year had a common talking point - Wuhan virus (as how we term it that time). Jokes were aplenty about how we need to be careful of everything from Wuhan. "Wash your hands ah, dont spread wuhan virus to me.", "where is this pork from? Wuhan ah?" etc. Later, WHO issued a change in name of the virus to Covid-19. As time pass, Singapore got hit with more and more cases. Everyone got more cautious. Although it has only be 1 month since CNY, it felt like we all grew a lot within this period. Some grew idiotic (you get what I mean), some grew racist, while some grew more empathetic and kind. It was also during this time that masks and hand sanitisers became the MUST get for eve
